Tuesday 15th March

We have played our last 2 rounds of golf now and have one more day here before we start our journey home.

A handy US Marine Corps bench
The last 2 days have been warm and partly sunny, but the wind has been quite gusty. We have played on both days on our own despite the courses being busy. Yesterday we played at Shipyard where we were late starting because we had to wait for buggies to be returned. This has happened at 2 of the courses we have been at; not sure why they have a shortage of buggies. We were worried that we would not finish before dark as there was a very slow 4 ball ahead of us, but fortunately there was just enough daylight for us to finish.

This year we had managed to get passes to play on the course on Parris Island which is the home of the US Marines. We had to apply for access on to the island before we left UK and just managed to squeeze today's golf in as the permit did not start until the 15th of March. It took a while for the gate guards to sort out our paperwork, but they eventually let us in. I was hoping for lots of hunky marines to be playing golf but in fact it was mainly retired service personnel playing.

The course was beautiful and was in the best condition of any of the courses we have played here. It was very open with lots of sky-blue lakes to catch our balls. We thoroughly enjoyed the course and Ben was surprised to find that he was given a reduced rate as he was a retired serviceman. There was an abundance of alligators and herons around the course.

Unfortunately, I have to admit that Ben won both days, but today he made me play from more backward tees than I am used to.
