Monday 7th March

We have had 2 very hot days with temperatures into the 80s. It was a little breezier today but still very warm.

Post-game drink with Barbara
Our golf seems to be highlighted now by who we play with. We find the Americans very interesting, and they are equally interested in all aspects of the UK. Yesterday we played with a 72-year-old lady on her own who was on holiday from near Boston. She had been married twice but she was now living on her own. She was eager to learn everything English ranging from Doc Martin to the Royal family and anything historical. Ben sent her a photo which someone took of the 3 of us and he received an email thanking him and saying how much she had enjoyed meeting us and playing golf with us. As far as the golf was concerned, she, Barbara, played reasonably well but Ben won the day.

Today's golf partners were a father and son from Michigan. The father was a consultant for business charities and also a rectal medical consultant. His son was a junior doctor completing his houseman's course having qualified from medical school 2 years ago. They were interesting men who played a form of golf which they called best ball and we would call a Texas scramble. My golf was better today but unfortunately Ben struggled around the greens. This evening we struggled to find somewhere to eat out. The 3 restaurants which had been recommended to us were all very busy. They told us that they didn't take bookings so if you wanted to be sure of getting a table you had to go at 4pm. This is, of course, too early for us to have our evening meal. We ended up in a Sportsbar where the food was cheaper, but we had to put up with about 50 TVs around us all showing different sports programmes.

Tomorrow is our last day of our golf package which may be fortunate as it is forecast to be wet for the rest of the week.
